Yes, video files are supported

Conversation to Text accepts video files as well as audio files. When a video file is submitted, the audio track is automatically extracted and processed for transcription. The video content itself is not analysed, only the audio is used for transcription and speaker diarization.

Supported video formats

Supported video formats include MP4. MP4 is the most common format for meeting recordings from Zoom, Teams, and other platforms and is fully supported.

Audio quality within video files

The accuracy of transcription from a video file depends on the quality of the audio track within that file. Video recordings made in a quiet environment with good microphone placement will produce the most accurate transcripts. Video files where the audio is captured from a room via a built-in camera microphone may produce lower accuracy due to the distance from speakers and ambient noise.

File size considerations

Video files are typically larger than audio-only files of equivalent duration. If your video file is very large, consider extracting the audio track using a free tool such as Audacity or VLC Media Player and submitting the audio file instead, which will be smaller and faster to upload. Contact Dictalogic support for guidance on maximum file size limits.
