What does AutoSync Do?
AutoSync bridges the gap between traditional, hardware based dictation and the Dictalogic cloud workflow. Many professionals, particularly in healthcare and legal environments, continue to use dedicated digital voice recorders (such as those from Philips, Olympus) as their preferred dictation device. These recorders are portable, reliable, and produce high quality audio. However, transferring recordings from a physical device to a cloud platform traditionally required the author to manually connect the recorder, locate the files, and upload them, a repetitive and time consuming step.
AutoSync eliminates this step entirely. It runs quietly in the background on the author’s Windows computer and constantly monitors either a designated folder path or a connected USB voice recorder. When a new audio dictation file appears, whether because the author has just connected their recorder via USB or because a recording has been saved to a monitored folder. AutoSync automatically detects it, uploads it to the author’s Dictalogic cloud account, and assigns it to the configured transcriptionist, secretary pool, or AI transcription engine. The author simply docks their recorder, and the work is done.
Key features
Automatic detection: AutoSync monitors a folder path or USB device and triggers upload as soon as new audio files are detected, with no manual action required from the author.
Cloud delivery: Recordings are uploaded securely to the Microsoft Azure cloud via the author’s Dictalogic account.
Automatic assignment: Once uploaded, dictations are automatically assigned to the configured destination, a named secretary, a department pool, a third party transcription service, or the AI Custom Speech engine in line with the author’s assignment settings or default assignment rules.
Compatibility with major recorder brands: AutoSync works with voice recorders from Philips, Olympus, Grundig, and other leading manufacturers. It supports the DSS and DS2 audio formats used by professional dictation devices, as well as standard formats including MP3 and WAV.
Background operation: AutoSync runs as a background process on Windows and does not require the author to actively launch or operate it. Once configured, it works automatically.
Secure transfer: All audio transferred via AutoSync is encrypted in transit using HTTPS and stored securely in the Microsoft Azure cloud in accordance with Dictalogic’s data security standards.
Who is AutoSync for?
AutoSync is designed for authors who regularly use a portable digital voice recorder as their primary dictation device and want their recordings to reach the Dictalogic workflow immediately on docking the device, without manual file management. It is widely used by GPs, consultants, solicitors, and other professionals who dictate on the move and rely on a dedicated hardware recorder.
How AutoSync fits into the Dictalogic workflow
AutoSync is one of several ways an author can get recordings into the Dictalogic platform. Other methods include dictating directly via the Dictalogic web portal, using the Dictalogic iOS or Android mobile app, or using the Speech Anywhere Widget for real time dictation. AutoSync specifically serves authors who prefer to record on a standalone device and then synchronise that content to the cloud when they return to their desk.
