Use your foot pedal
If you do not already use a foot pedal, investing in one will significantly increase your typing speed and overall productivity. A foot pedal keeps both hands free for typing while allowing you to control audio playback.
Adjust playback speed
Adjust the playback speed to match the author’s speaking pace. Many transcriptionists find that slightly increasing the default speed for example, from 1.0x to 1.2x or 1.25x for clearly spoken dictations allows them to process more audio in less time.
Use custom text shortcuts
If Dictalogic text shortcuts are available to you, set up shortcuts for frequently used phrases, standard paragraphs, salutations, and sign-offs. Inserting a shortcut takes a fraction of the time of typing the same content from scratch.
Set auto rewind
Configure a short automatic rewind when resuming playback after a pause (typically 1 to 2 seconds). This provides context for the last few words spoken before the pause and prevents missed content.
Review as you go
Rather than typing the full dictation and then reviewing, review and correct as you work through the audio. This is more efficient than making a full pass and then going back to correct errors.
Use the status system
Update dictation statuses promptly mark jobs as Being Typed when you start and Complete when you finish. This keeps the author informed and ensures accurate workflow reporting.
