Prepare before you dictate
Organise your thoughts before you begin recording. Having a clear structure in mind or referring to notes results in a more fluent dictation and a cleaner transcript, reducing the amount of editing required.
Use the correct work type
Always select the correct work type or description before recording. This ensures the dictation is routed correctly and helps the transcriptionist understand the context of the job.
Speak at a natural pace
Do not speak too quickly or too slowly. A natural conversational pace is optimal for speech recognition. Avoid rushing through complex terms or names.
Dictate punctuation
Always say punctuation marks aloud: “full stop”, “comma”, “new paragraph”, and so on. This significantly reduces post-dictation editing and produces a more accurately formatted document.
Spell out unusual terms
For unusual names, places, or technical terms that may not be in the AI’s dictionary, consider spelling them out the first time, “Dr Smith, that is S-M-I-T-H” to ensure they are captured correctly.
Record in a quiet environment
Minimise background noise to maximise accuracy.
Review before submitting
Listen back to your dictation before submitting it, particularly for important documents. Correct any errors before the job is sent to the transcriptionist.
